Community Gardens Are A Growing Trend In Mansfield

Community gardens have proved to be a successful trend in many U.S. communities. Community gardens offer people who live in cities, like Mansfield, a chance to garden when they don't have the land for their own garden or live in an apartment.

Currently, there are six community gardens throughout Mansfield. Each garden is yielding large amounts of tomatoes, potatoes, basil and other crops. The gardens are fresh, local grown produce and available for the residents to take home.

Mansfield is using these gardens as a way to educate and feed the community. The gardens are supported through the North End Community Improvement Collaborative. The food is used by the community and local hot meal programs. The gardens are located at

  • 271 Rowland Ave
  • Fourth Street and Atherton Ave
  • Make Lake Park
  • First Christain Church, 200 W. Third Street
  • Temple Court at Bowman and Boughton Ave
  • St. Luke Lutheran Church, Illinois Ave
These gardens however need the community's support. It's important that people understand that the community gardens are available for residents to take from but that they need volunteers to help keep each garden growing strong. For information, call Jean Taddie with the North End Community Improvement Collaborative at 419-525-3101.
